We are building peer-to-peer marketplace software, and we are looking for a UI that is elegant, simple, and modern. Because we will be white-labeling our software, this baseline UI should be flexible to customization, and not have too strong an identity of its own. The main pages we want designed are: a shopping/search/browsing experience, a beautiful listing detail page, and a low-friction listing creation page for sellers. The product images users upload may have different resolutions/aspect ratios, and a good design will take that into account.
Clean and simple looks are best for our needs. The Quicksand font is personally my favorite. I don't have a very strong opinion on color palette (or amount of color vs. mostly black/white), but am interested in seeing what everyone comes up with.
Main listing browse page (homepage): > Image focused > All pictures will be user generated content, not professional images-so account for irregular picture sizes and qualities. Listing detail page: > Same deal with the inconsistent image size/quality. > Should look as professional as possible, but also simple. There is a lot of information about a listing (name, description, images, size/condition/model number/etc., seller location/reputation, price, shipping info, etc.). We want to avoid the feeling of a huge wall of text as much as possible. Sellers page: > We'd like to avoid a high-friction/intimidating/tedious form with tons of fields, if possible. Looking for fun/frictionless/painless ways for sellers to enter information. > Making sure the seller is encouraged to upload several pictures, rather than just one, is a plus.
What to avoid
Avoid being kitschy and stylized. No bubble letters, ect... eBay is horrible, so avoid looking like that hellhole.
Have fun, be creative, looking for new perspectives on marketplaces. Try to think about what you would like to see if you sold your used clothing online.
