Mr.Rickles got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Topgun web designers needed to help Askified create a website
Check out Mr.Rickles's Web page design contest…
The website basically is a site where people can go on and ask questions, give answers to questions or search for questions that have been answered previously. The target audience will be young to middle-age women and men. The main difference between what this site will become and all of the other Question & Answer sites is that the main focus will be on driving the video function of the site… so the site really needs to be intuitive enough for people to want to post videos of their questions and then their answers. But - if they don’t want to add videos - then that’s OK too.
I want the site to have a good balance between been really fresh and punchy (read vibrant and colourful), and clean and simple. I have included below the logo for Askified - maybe following that colour scheme of red and white? I also like orange as a colour. The design should not be corporate. Also - i don't like too much stock photography - rather illustrations would be better.
Here is a sitemap for reference when designing up the navigation: Home Login - Settings - My Questions - My Answers Ask Answer Discover Categories About Competitions Privacy Feedback Contact Homepage: - Elements: - Header: - Logo - Login - Search bar - Categories: - Business - Computers - Design - Health - Politics - Parenting - Pregnancy - Social Media - Sport - Travel - Latest videos (display 1) - large to play + Latest videos (6 thumbnails - so that when the user clicks on each it launches to the larger view) - Latest unanswered questions (display 6) - Latest answers (display 6… along with the questions) - Most active users (display 3 - should display their stats, how many questions they have asked, and how many answers they have given) - New users (display 3) - Competition call-out, such as Like us on Facebook, ask a question and answer a question to go into the draw to win a $100 iTunes voucher - Footer: - Social media links - Links to: About, Privacy, Feedback & Contact Informational Page: Keep things simple with this page - it really only needs to have text for the body There would obviously still be the header/footer to navigate to the other parts of the site Question & Answer Page: I don’t want this page to have too much scrolling The user should be able to answer a question without having to drill down into another section of the site Videos should be up the top of the listings - then the text questions/answers The question and answer should have - How long ago the question was asked or the answer given - What category it belongs to - Who asked / answered the question - The user asking the question should be able to: - Rate each answer that is given - Confirm which is the correct/most helpful answer Elements on each page: - Search bar - Navigation - Social media - Facebook - Google+ -Twitter - RSS ** NEW ** I feel like there should be a points system - such that it is very clear and evident how many points (questions/answers that users have deemed correct or liked) someone has - the users with the more points, the more likely they are to give accurate answers. Incorporating this from the start is something that I definitely want to achieve. ** NEW # 2** During the registration process I will be asking for the country that users are from. As such I want to have a mini flag next to each users' post. Coupled with that I would like to have on the homepage a tally of all of the countries with users, how many users, how many questions and how many answers.
What to avoid
www.allexperts.com - I find this site to be too dull and not enough life, this style should be avoided
I have attached both the logos for Askified as well as the logo for my business Enrich'd. I would like the logo of Askified to be prominent brand. At the very bottom footer I would like the enrich'd logo to be used - maybe reduced in size with a tag line of 'This site has been Enrich'd' where the word Enrich'd is the logo. Also - I appreciate that the pages I am asking for aren't the full design of the sites required pages - for example I would need a login, settings, my questions, my answers etc. pages designed. But I think that these three are the main ones to lock down... once I have awarded this contest to a designer... I will work with them after this contest to complete the extra pages required (obviously we would come to an agreed amount for this extra work).
