As your host and fellow scrappy entrepreneur, I’m here to help you do that, like a tour guide leading you to your favorite destination. “Scrappy,” just so you know, is a word that was used to describe me from early on in life, and it has stuck with me for good reason. I have drive and unstoppable will power. I work hard and accomplish whatever I set my sights on. I never hesitate to put in the hard work and figure things out. We all have our unique stories about when we first got “stung” by the entrepreneur bug. For me, it happened at the tender age of five, when I started my very first business. I started collecting pretty and colorful leaves on the Pennsylvania farm where I lived and selling them door-to-door. That’s right, I sold leaves! To make them more exclusive, I had a limit of one leaf per customer. I think you can call that scrappy, out-of-the-Box-Elder thinking! My second business was also unique, but a bit more lucrative, and I started it after moving to the glittering lights of Las Vegas. Known as Newsletters for Free, it was created for Homeowners Associations (HOAs). These informative newsletters were distributed to HOA members and I kept the revenues from ad sales. Definitely a win-win! I then chose to pursue higher education. After college, I worked as a news reporter but ultimately found it unsatisfying and made a transition into public relations and marketing. I worked for a local company for a year, but felt I could do more. At age 25, I started MassMedia, an integrated communications firm. As a scrappy entrepreneur, I built MassMedia on a shoestring from the ground up, tapping into my knowledge and education to effectively serve all kinds of businesses ranging from small start-ups to large Fortune 500 companies. MassMedia was my “baby” and grew into an amazingly successful enterprise with more than 40 employees and $10 million in annual earnings. No more selling leaves for me! Success was all about maintaining the right attitude and determination, plus having the grit to never give up and achieve the results I wanted. As we once heard from NASA, “Failure was not an option.” So, look at me now. I’m financially secure, living the good life, and anxious to give back and serve others who want to be in the driver’s seat of their own destiny through a business of their own. I have learned a lot in 25 years, and I am building this online community to help you realize your dreams while providing consistent and positive support and motivation.
