Stephen J. got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Create a catching website for a grrowing and active sailing club.

We are looking to promote our sailing school programs geared to youth 7-18 and we are looking to encourage membership in our club in general.
As a water based sport we would like to see lots of blues and greys in the colour pallet. Looking for a very bold, clean and crisp design. Would like the design to be simple enough that is easily viewed on a variety of screen sizes.
The first Page is going to be our home page. I would like headings or buttons (Menu) that would allow the user to visit one of the following areas/pages within our website: 1>Activities: - Sailing School - Racing - Cruising Roundezvous 2>Facilities - General Facilities - Mooring Field 3> How to Join 4> Members Only 5> Links The second page design we are looking for is to promote our Youth Sailing School Program. We want to put a big push on this program in 2015 and plane to heavily depend on the website for promotion. The Sailing School is aimed at 7-18 Year old youth we want something that intrigues them. The second page should have links to: City of Yellowknife Registration Supplementary Registration Form Alberta Sailing Association Sail Canada Sailing School Notices Some where in the footer there should also be an area that provides the use of our supporters' (sponsors') logos in miniature.
What to avoid
Things to include: Marine Colours - Blues etc. Marine Code Flags Marine & Nautical Themed elements Open to Horizontal or Vertical Menu bars. The Sailing school page should only have pictures of the youth boats. All potential pictures for this page start with "youth" in file name. You may use other graphics and clip art as you wish.
I have provide several photos. These photos are all local photos of club boats. If you are going to use photo images please use images from this selection so that we may have the best representation of our local sailing waters and sailing fleet. I have also attached several illustrator files. The club logo is within these files. These files consist mostly of old promotional materials such as posters. I thought they may have various pieces of clip art or design elements that you might want to borrow from. Today is February 21st. I will not have the means to sit down and critique the first set of designs with any great degree of detail on Monday morning (23rd). From that point on I will be able to check in and comment every 24hrs so please watch for my updates each morning. I may check in on the contest from time to time but I have set a couple hours aside each morning to make my primary comments. The club has recently changed its name to THE GREAT SLAVE SAILING CLUB (GSSC) from the Great Slave Cruising Club so be careful that you don't copy and paste old design elements without modifying the name. The end customer on this website is a not-for-profit organization so website development has to be sought after in stages and approved by the board. There should be opportunity for future development of the website's back pages and promotional material such as posters based on these designs.
