For a book of love poems appealing to young adults, the brief requested a pair of birds, flowers, hearts, and perhaps fire.

With poetry and passion in mind, I envisioned two birds straining to reach each other in front of dark blue flames. From the floral-like fire, a quartet of hearts bloom and rise, giving a sense of hope among the chaos. In the center of the fire, however, is an upside down heart in icy blue, a reminder that love has a cold and shadowy side.
