mrjoshelliott got their new logo & business card by running a design contest:
New logo for an expanding natural food store!
Check out mrjoshelliott's Logo & business card contest…
We are a small natural food store. We are expanding to a second location, but I am changing the name for the second location and want to start branding the business somewhat differently (we haven't focused much on branding previously). We work a ton with local vendors trying to bring new products to market and have a very loyal following. What I'm trying to convey with the name and the logo is twofold - First, food is a the common bond between people - no matter where you go to be with others there will be food there, mealtimes bring families together, dates happen over meals, etc. Second, I believe in the importance of localized food, that we are losing what it means to be a conscious consumer by having big box stores selling products that come from who knows where - we won't be able to have everything sourced locally, but we will focus on bringing in as many local products as possible. I want a logo that is easily recognizable. I want something more than something small and simple - I would like something that evokes the emotions of a "familiar space." My concept from early on has been a dayscape - starting from left to right there is a tree with a dog underneath, following by the name, then on the right side there is a park bench and a lamp. The scene turns from day to night, but has a continuous stretch of grass - I thought of this idea because the idea of a central park area is also something of a bond between people - but I am in no way saying that the logo has to be this exactly, or even similar - just that it evoke a similar emotion. Also, I own CommonBondMarket.com, too - and if there are wise people out there who think the name should read without "the," I'm open to being convinced...
Other color requirements
The color scheme we are going with is a dark blue and light blue - the idea of the shifting sky colors, and blue is also my favorite color.
Regarding the sample image - this was done by a graphic designer who I had worked with, but the feel of it isn't quite right. Again, I want to stress it really is not important that the logo is exactly what I'm saying - this is just the direction we started going - I do still like it, but my concerns are that it may end up being "busy" and difficult to put on a business card. One other note, was that the logo attached has too much of a "clip art" feel - not sure what the fix is, and not sure how many people do hand drawn - but I would like more of a "natural" feel without, coming off too niche. The PDF attached, is a font that I think jives with the feel I'm looking for. I look forward to working with everyone!
