DAO Refers to organizations that are run by an application (computer program) rather than direct human input. Control of this application is granted to everyone rather than a single central entity. Acronym for Decentralized Autonomous Organization. HODL A term derived from a misspelling of "hold" that refers to buy-and-hold strategies in the context of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Originated in 2013 with a post to the Bitcointalk forum when an intoxicated user by the name of GameKyuubi posted "I AM HODLING," in a rant about his poor trading skills and determination to simply hold his bitcoin from that point on. Crypto A digital asset designed to work as a medium of exchange, information, or money wherein individual coin ownership records are stored in a distributed ledger existing in a form of decentralized computer network using strong cryptography operating independently of any centralized entity. Consensus When an electronic transaction is made, all nodes on the network verify that it is valid making it a permanent and immutable bit of information embedded in the blockchain forever. Middleman An intermediary or agent between two parties especially providing some level of trust between the producer of goods and the consumer of those goods. Open Source A software operating system or application for which the original source code is made freely available to all and may be redistributed and modified according to the needs of the user. No Sole Ownership Where ownership so complete that no other person has any interest in the property cannot exist. Consumer A person who purchases goods and services for personal use. Provider A person who gives someone something they need. Parents who work so they can feed and buy their children what they need. A doctor does this with health services we need. World The earth, together with all of its land, sea, countries, peoples, and natural features.
